Temperate Climates of the world

Characteristics of cool temperate oceanic climate Temperature Summers  Warm usually 15*C – 17*C Winters  Mild usually 4*C – 6*C Annual temperature range about 11*C Rainfall Rain fall throughout the year , but heaviest in Winter Annual total between 800mm and 2000mm Natural Vegetation Deciduous forest Tree species  oak, ash, elm and willow

Warm temperate oceanic climates Warm temperate climates of the world are located along the western edges of landmasses They are found between 30 and 40 north and south of the equator They are also known as Mediterranean climates

Characteristics of warm temperate oceanic climate Temperature Summers  Hot averaging 30*C Winters  mild averaging between 4*C and 6*C Rainfall Summers are generally dry, with some drought Winters are moist with rainfall between 400mm and 700mm Natural vegetation Evergreen Woodland Tree species  cork, oak, cypress, cedar and olive Adapted to environment  have thick bark and are widely spaced

Changing Mediterranean climate Much of the woodland as been cleared for agriculture, the increase in animals has led to overgrazing New crops introduced  oranges, lemons and grapefruit Irrigation schemes have been introduced to overcome drought problems Development of a huge tourism industry especially in Spain, while it has brought wealth to the region it has also damaged the environment
