Simulation Fundamentals Static Stress/Shape Topology Tutorial This area of the PowerPoint is to be used to provide tutor notes for facilitators to help them run the session and achieve the stated outcomes. The aim is to provide guidance as to the lengths of various activities, as well as notes on how to contextualise the learning and ideas of how the materials can be adapted for different audiences. The structure of these notes should be as follows: Time needed Contextualisation Tasks Guidance for how to write the information in each section: Time needed: up to XX minutes Provide guidance that will help the facilitator understand the main points of the slide and any information needed to be thought about or shared before or after revealing points within it. Examples of this type of contextualisation could be: - In order for improvements to teaching and learning to be driven forward and a vision established it is essential that all stakeholders are involved in the process. It is good practice to engage with different evidences which can stimulate discussions and influence thinking and that is why a number of perspectives are used. The group may wish to draw on other evidences to add to the discussions at a later date including: feedback from technicians; work samples; learning walks etc. - This is a key activity of the session as all members of the team are able to influence and shape their collective vision Task <NUMBER OF TASK WITHIN THE PDE> Task Title – e.g. Developing Characteristics for Our Team for Outstanding Teaching and Learning in Science Task instructions or ideas of how to adapt it – e.g. - Go through task instructions and the support materials for the discussions, slides 5-8 and Handout 1-3 - Slides 3-5 can be revealed one at a time with key points discussed after each or participants could spend time in groups looking at Handout 1 which relates to these slides and feedback their learning around their discussions. ©STEM Learning Limited. Creating the part: Create a center to center slot from the origin going down by 30mm and a diameter of 20mm Click Sketch, Create sketch, Create a new sketch on the bottom plane.

Create a Box Create, Extrude. Extrude the new sketch upwards by 2mm Create two center diameter circles in the middle of both ends of the slot with a diameter of 10mm. Make sure to save your part before moving into the simulation workspace.

Choose a study Change the workspace from model to simulation: Choose static stress and press ok

Study Material Click on material, study material Change the study material from same as model to ABS Plastic

Structural Constraints - Click on Constraint , Structural Constraints Choose the inside face of the top hole as shown. This will keep the part fixed in places

Structural Loads- Click on Load, Structural Loads. Select the inside face of the bottom hole. Then change the force type to bearing load. Then change the magnitude to 50N and press ok.

Solving Study - Click Solve, Pre – check. Pre Check makes sure you have all the information required. Then Click on Solve and Solve. Choose either to solve locally or On cloud and Solve 1 Study.

Results - Click on results to review the results of the study Fusion will give you the minimum safety factor of your part.

Results- Click on safety factor to change to stress, displacement, etc. Use the sliders on the legend to show the weak parts of the the model.

Viewing Results - Change the Deformation scale to see a more adjusted view of the results. Additionally animate the results by clicking animate and press play.

Create a New Study Click on Study to create a new study. Then change the study type to Shape Optimization. Then press Ok.

Preserve Region Click on Shape Optimization, Preserve Region. Then select one of the holes. Notice the area has turned green. Anything in this region will be preserved. Change the radius to 7 mm and repeat to the other hole.

Shape Optimization Criteria- Click on Shape Optimization, Shape Optimization Criteria. Here you can change the criteria of the study such as the target mass which defaults to 30%

Study Settings - Click manage, settings. Change from general to mesh. Take the model based size down to 1% this will refine the results. Go into Advanced Settings and change the element order to parabolic. Click Ok, then click yes on the warning. Then send solve the study.

Results - Once the study has solved. View the results. Notice how the material has been removed from the part. Use the slider to increase of decrease the mass of the part

Promote Results - Click results, then promote. This takes the results of the simulation and imports them into the model workspace as a mesh. Notice the mesh body under the bodies folder.

Change Opacity- Right click on body 1, then opacity control. Change the opacity to 50%. Use the results to trace around the mesh and modify the part.

Now try running another static stress simulation through the part. Tutorial Finished Now try running another static stress simulation through the part.
