She dwelt among the untrodden ways Beside the springs of Dove, A Maid whom there were none to praise And very few to love: A violet by a mossy stone Half hidden from the eye! Fair as a star, when only one Is shining in the sky. She lived unknown, and few could know When Lucy ceased to be; But she is in her grave, and, oh, The difference to me! By William Wordsworth

Heading – Poetry One ‘A poem is like a person’. Write two or three sentences in response to this comment.

With no people about, she is surrounded only by nature. Like nature, nobody appreciates her beauty. Form: This is a lyric poem (expresses emotions) and a ballad poem (telling a story). Write down the word ‘Emotions:’ and as we continue, note any feelings we come across. (This may have been a real woman that the poet knew named Lucy).
