Language, Literacy and Communication This term we will be reinforcing the Read Write Inc sounds introduced last term. We will continue to practise blending the sounds to read and write simple words. This term we will be looking at the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We will be creating story maps, acting out the story and also writing the story. We will continue to send reading books and flashcards home. As the children become ready we will send home books for them to read rather than to have read to them. Reading books will continue to be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Science and Technology The children will have daily access to the computers and other ICT equipment in the class including CD players, digital cameras, easi-speak microphone, tuft cam and beebots. Maths and Numeracy The children will take part in daily number activities. They will practise counting, ordering and recognising numbers to 10 and beyond We will also continue to practise writing numbers to 10 without a copy We will be focusing on calculating one/ two more and one/two less and encouraging children to start forming written sums. We will continue to use the language of measure when comparing size and weight and use non-standard units to measure the length, height and weight of objects. Humanities This term we will be looking at different animals from around the world and doing our own research about them. The children have created a KWL grid about what they already KNOW about animals and what they WANT to find out. We will then revisit this at the end of the term where the children will discuss what they have LEARNED. Health and Wellbeing The children will also be encouraged to take more responsibility for choosing equipment and resources to use inside and outside of the classroom. The children will be encouraged to talk about what they are good at and how they can improve their performance in different areas. The children have set goals which they would like to achieve by half term. The children will continue to develop their fine motor skills by using a wide variety of small equipment including scissors, pens, and kitchen utensils when cooking. We will hopefully be able to make use of the outside environment more this term for our physical education sessions. We will also continue to use the skills we have developed using a range of small equipment. Children in Deri class need to come to school dressed in PE kit on Tuesday’s and Helyg on Thursday’s. Expressive Arts The children will have many experiences of using a wide variety of art materials in focused activities and during free play. We will be using water colours to create backgrounds and we will also be making clay models of our favourite animals. After half term we will be focusing on sketching and painting Welsh emblems. Homework bingo This term the children can take more ownership for their home earning by choosing 1 or 2 peices f work to complete each week. The tasks are: Draw a picture of your pet. If you haven't got a pet, draw a picture of one you would like and name them! Can you write a list of animals? Try and sound out the words carefully and write all the letter sounds you hear. Do some research about your favourite animal. Visit a farm/zoo/park/ garen or pet shop! We would love to see pictures or writing all about it. Reading and writing numbers. Log on to Mathletics and try to earn an award! Make a model of your favourite animal. Tell your family the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Ask your friends and family what pets they have at home. Count how many of each animal there is. Could you create a tally chart? Welsh The teaching staff will use incidental Language throughout the day and the children will be encouraged to respond appropriately. We will also learn traditional Welsh songs and rhymes. The children will play games to help with vocabulary and listen to stories from Fflic a Fflac.
