Regulations The basic requirements on radiation protection including dose limits are described in Hygiene Regulations HN 73:2001 “BASIC STANDARDS OF RADIATION PROTECTION” which was prepared for implementation of the BSS and European Council Directives 96/29/Euratom and 97/43 Euratom. On the basis of requirements of the above mentioned Laws and these Hygiene Regulations more then 50 regulations were prepared and adopted. Competent Authorities Radiation Protection Centre (RSC) Main functions and responsibilities: drafting of legislation; authorization; inspections & enforcement; maintenance of State Register; decision support in emergency situations; exposure assessment; radiation protection expertise; public information; international co-operation. State Nuclear Power Safety Inspectorate (VATESI) VATESI performs the functions of: The authority regulating the activities in the nuclear energy area; The supervisory authority; The authority issuing licences, permits or temporary permits; The emergency preparedness authority in the case of a nuclear or radiological accident; The authority representing the interests of the state in international organisations. Overview of the process to establish or revise regulations Regulations are regularly overviewed and revised based on: New IAEA regulations; EC, HERCA, ICRP, WHO, etc. recommendations and publications; requirements of national legislation.
