1 Corinthians 11:23-26 23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me." 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

Matthew 26:27-28 27 Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. Cup represents the blood of Christ that was shed for the forgiveness of our sins

Christ’s death met four needs we have as sinners: We deserve to die as the penalty for sin We deserve to bear God’s wrath against sin We are separated from God by our sin We are in bondage to sin and to the kingdom of Satan
