3 We must remember the setting (Mark 14:12-16)
On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed… A. Jesus observed the Passover “For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.” (Exodus 12:42)

4 6 Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, “I am the Lord, and 1I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and 2I will deliver you from their bondage. 3I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. 7 Then 4I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am the Lord your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.” EXODUS 6:6-7

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed… A. Jesus observed the Passover 1. To look back at God’s past deliverances It is a night to be observed for the LORD for having brought them out from the land of Egypt; this night is for the LORD, to be observed by all the sons of Israel throughout their generations. (Exodus 12:42)

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, when the Passover lamb was being sacrificed… A. Jesus observed the Passover 1. To look back at God’s past deliverances 2. To look ahead to a future deliverance “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer…” (Luke 22:15)

9 We must remember the symbolism (Mark 14:22-25)
A. Jesus took bread (22) While they were eating, He took some bread, and after a blessing He broke it, and gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is My body.” 1. He gave a blessing 2. He broke it 3. He said it represented His body

B. Jesus took the cup (23-24) 23 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, and they all drank from it. 24 And He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.” 1. He gave thanks 2. He gave it to them 3. He said it represented His covenant- making blood

11 ISAIAH 53:12 “Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the transgressors.”

12 EXODUS 24:8 “So Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words.”

13 18 “Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood.”
22 “And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” HEBREWS 9:18, 22

14 We must remember the symbolism (Mark 14:22-25)
C. Jesus made a promise (25) “Truly I say to you, I will never again drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” 1. Jesus died for the benefit to many 2. Jesus would live after He died 3. Jesus is going to establish the Kingdom of God

15 We must remember to sing praise (Mark 14:26)
After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. Psalm 113: Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, Praise the name of the Lord. 2 Blessed be the name of the Lord From this time forth and forever. 3 From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the Lord is to be praised. 4 The Lord is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens. Psalm 118: Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; We have blessed you from the house of the Lord. 27 The Lord is God, and He has given us light; Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. 28 You are my God, and I give thanks to You; You are my God, I extol You. 29 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting.

16 1 Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, Praise the name of the Lord. 2 Blessed be the name of the Lord From this time forth and forever. 3 From the rising of the sun to its setting The name of the Lord is to be praised. 4 The Lord is high above all nations; His glory is above the heavens. 17 26 Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; We have blessed you from the house of the Lord. 27 The Lord is God, and He has given us light; Bind the festival sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar. 28 You are my God, and I give thanks to You; You are my God, I extol You. 29 Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; For His lovingkindness is everlasting. PSALM 118:26-29

18 We must remember to sing praise (Mark 14:26)
After singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives. We sing to remind us of what God has done in the past. We sing to prepare ourselves to live with God in the future.
