Tutorial: Search and Browse Project MUSE

Search for Books and Journals Type search terms, keywords, phrases (“”) and Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT) into the search box. As you type, a drop-down menu of suggested search terms appears. Click on a suggested term or continue to type your own.

Search Use the drop-down menu to search for books and journals together or separately. Hit enter or click the orange “Go” button to begin your search.

Search Sort Search results by relevance or date of publication.

Click “Modify Search” to narrow your search results, add search terms, or search within specific fields (Content, Title, Author, Research Areas). Click the small gray ( + ) icon to increase the number of search fields.

Search Use the Search Facets to refine search results by: Content Type – search books or journals only Access – uncheck the box to see search results from all of Project MUSE’s content, not just the content to which you have access Research Area – check the boxes next to the Research Areas from which you would like to see search results Author – check the boxes to view content by a specific author or selection of authors Language – check the box to see search results that are published in a selected language

Browse Books and Journals Hold your cursor over the Browse button to display the seventeen broad Research Areas into which MUSE’s content is organized. Click on a Research Area to view its content. Click the Browse button to view the full listing of broad and narrow Research Areas in Project MUSE.

Browse Click on a link to browse content by: Titles – browse all book and journal content alphabetically by title Publishers – browse an A – Z listing of all MUSE publishers. Click a publisher’s name to view its content Books – see an A – Z listing of all books Journals – see an A – Z listing of all journals

Browse Click Browse All to browse the full listing of Research Areas Use the drop-down menu to browse results A – Z or by most recently added content Browse results in Detailed (A), List (B), or Grid (C) view. A B C

Browse To browse the complete content of a journal, click on its title Research Area – see the Research Area you are browsing Content Type – browse books or journals only Access – check the box to browse results from only the content to which you have access

Browse Click to see this publisher’s other content Click to see the contents of the most recent issue Links to all available journal issues

Browse Email a link to this journal Search the contents of the journal. Click to see journal information, including editorial details and submission guidelines Share this journal through social media
