Question(group work) Make a presentation on unit 10 Integration of ICT in the Curriculum Role of ICTs in the curriculum content/intent. Success Challenges recommendation Curriculum Is the subject comprising of course of study in a programme. It refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a specific course or programme Is also broadly defined as the totality of student that occur in the educational fraternity.

Information communication Technology Refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunication. ICT Integration in Education Hall, T., Vue, G., Koga, N. and Silva, S. (2004) defined ICT integration as “the process of determining where and how technology fits in the teaching and learning scenario.” The use of technology involves the infusion of technology as a tool to enhance the learning in content area or multidisciplinary setting.

Cont.. Effective integration of technology is achieved when students are able to select technology tools to help them; - obtain information in a timely manner - analyse and synthesize the information - present it professionally. Curriculum Content Is information to be learnt in school , another term for knowledge (collection of facts, concepts, principles, generalisation and theories) It also simply means the totality of what is to be taught in school system.

Curricular Intent According to Hanushek. (2009) curriculum intent refers to what we want students to learn from the mandated curriculum. Role of ICT in the Curriculum Content Intent To enhance access to and dissemination of educational content. It uses curricula and standardized testing. To promote innovation entrepreneurship in smart agriculture, digital technology and climate change technology. To access information, ‘is the main use of ICTs in education.’ To enhance public-private partnership

Success Use of technology tool in integrating technology with standard curriculum Guide education reform with a flexible, proven approach for student success Build a strong policy framework that has flexibility to support changes as needed while maintaining the program’s integrity and mission. Transforming education by ensuring teachers have the latest skills and tools needed to meet their students needs.

Challenges Lack of ICT equipment and the cost of acquiring, using and maintaining ICT resources Lack of access to ICT equipment due to organizational factors e.g. ICT suites rather than classroom. Obsolescence of software and hardware Unreliability of equipment Lack of technical support Lack of training differed according to teacher existing ICT skill levels Most of the schools in rural areas are not connected to power. Lack of security (unsecured ICT rooms) CONCLUSSION This presentation focussed on Integration of ICT in the Curriculum, it looked at Role of ICTs in the curriculum content/intent. Success Challenges and recommendation

Recommendation ICT coordinators in schools should be supported in setting up an association of ICT Organize ICT training programmes Schools to have ICT plan Schools should have an acceptable use policy for computer hard ware, software and the internet Teachers should plan systematically for the use of ICT in teaching and learning Consider ICT implications
