Course Selection Dates for Rising Sophomores Begins on November 30th Ends on December 14th Be on time for your appointment. Be prepared with a completed form. Please notify your counselor if you are unable to make your appointment time.

2017-18 Curriculum Guide A copy of the 2017-18 Curriculum Guide can be viewed and downloaded from the RB website.

Sophomore Year Classes 1.0 Credit in English 1.0 Credit in Math 1.0 Credit in Science 1.0 Credit in Western Civ (if not currently in) .5 Credit P.E. or .5 Credit Marching Band 2nd semester .5 Credit in Health Electives (World Language, Applied Arts, Fine Arts) Pay attention to graduation requirements Be sure to list alternative classes, especially P.E.

Graduation Requirements English – 4.0 credits Math – 3.0 credits Science – 3.0 credits Social Science – 3.0 credits Western Civilization or AP European History – 1.0 credit US History – 1.0 credit US Government - .5 credit Cultural & Global Studies - .5 credit** Consumer Ec, Economics, or AP Micro & Macro - .5 credit Health - .5 credit Cultural & Applied Studies – 2 credits (Applied Arts, World Language or Fine Arts) Fine Arts Survey - .5 credit ** Physical Education – 3.5 credits Additional Credits – 3.5 credits Total Required – 22 credits

Fulfilling Grad Requirements Refer to Page 8 in the Curriculum Guide The Cultural Studies & Global Area Studies requirement may be fulfilled by taking: Global Area Studies A or B Sociology AP World History Level 4 language class at RBHS (French IV or Spanish IV) AP language class (AP German, French, AP Spanish Language, AP Spanish Literature)

Fulfilling Grad Requirements Refer to Page 8 in the Curriculum Guide ***All students must take the Fine Arts Survey course, unless they fulfill the following requirements: Annually take at least a ½ unit within one area of concentration in the Fine Arts over their four years (music, visual arts, or dance/drama). OR A ½ unit of a performing art and an additional ½ unit of a visual art.. A Fine Art Survey Proficiency Exam is offered twice a year.

Summer School Opportunities Summer School information will be posted on the RB website by mid-April. Any failed courses from previous years should be made-up in summer school.

Course Request Changes Take selecting course for next school year seriously. “Change of mind” course changes will not be honored after January 27th Teachers may make level change recommendations after January.

Course Verification Letters Course verification letters will be mailed home to families in late February/March. Students/parents will be given approximately 5 days to review their course selections. Verification letters are mailed only to ensure course selection accuracy. We are not able to honor “change of mind” course changes. Students should see their counselor if there is an error on the course verification letter.
