Who is a Young Carer?

A Young Carer is… A young person aged 8-17 yrs old with caring responsibilities for: Parents Relatives Siblings This may include: Physical/Learning disability Mental health issues Long-term health care needs HIV & Drugs and/or Alcohol Misuse

56% of them are Girls 44% of them are Boys There are almost 200,000 young carers in the UK 56% of them are Girls 44% of them are Boys

THE AVERAGE AGE OF YOUNG CARERS IS JUST 12 YEARS OLD

Do you think that may be too young to have so much responsibility?

12 years old and looking after Mom, dad, brother or sister.

What about Younger Carers? 7 or… 6 or… even 5 yrs old!

How would you cope with looking after someone? Could you feed… bathe… and give medication?

by talking or feeling you have to be there or maybe offer emotional Support by talking or feeling you have to be there
