1 Secondary Transfer A short guide
Closing date 21st October 2016 for Camden (31st October is the official one but the admissions team have requested the week before to process all the applications in time)

2 Camden residents can apply to Islington schools
To request an Islington brochure if you do not live in the borough, please contact secondary schools admissions please phone: or your query to: Camden residents can apply to Islington schools Islington residents can apply to Camden schools You fill it all in on the same form for the borough you live in

3 Choosing a school Before deciding which schools to apply for, you should gather as much information about the schools as possible. For example read the descriptions in the booklet, get information from elsewhere, obtain the schools own information booklets, visit the schools on the open days/ evenings . Make sure you are clear which schools require you to complete a supplementary form in addition to the form for your home borough and ensure that the supplementary form is returned to the school on time. You can apply for up to six schools and these must be ordered by your preference. Please do not include special or independent schools.

4 Your school preferences
• Your application allows you to apply for six schools in order of your preference. We advise parents to apply for as many schools as possible. • You need to be realistic about the chances of your application being successful. You should remember that most schools receive more applications than they have places available so will not be able to make offers to everyone who applies. When deciding who should receive a place at an oversubscribed school the published admission criteria must be used*. • None of the secondary schools in Camden have associated feeder primary schools, so please be aware that just because your child has been attending a particular primary school, it does not mean that s/he will automatically be given a place at a particular secondary school in the borough. • If you live near the borough boundary you may have a chance of securing a place in a school in the neighbouring authority. *To view the criteria applied at Camden Community schools see page For voluntary aided schools please refer to the schools own pages within this booklet.

5 Admissions Criteria * Proof of “Looked after” status will be requested from the relevant Local Authority ** Sibling refers to brother or sister, half brother or sister, adopted brother or sister, step brother or sister, and in every case, the child should be living in the same family unit at the same address. This information will need to be validated by the school in question *** Independent professional evidence must be included with the application.

13 Myth Busters Myth – Listing one school on your form will mean that the Council will have to offer that school. Myth – If you live nearer to the school than the last child offered under the distance criterion last year you will be guaranteed a place. Myth – Children in my road go to the school so my child will too. Myth – If I work close to the school, the distance is from my work to the school. Myth – Listing the same school six times will improve my chances of being offered the school. Myth – My child’s Key Stage 2 test results will affect their chance of securing a school place? Myth – I can only apply for Camden schools. Myth – If I apply to a school in another borough, their residents will have priority over me. Myth – It does not matter if my application is late. See page 13 in the Camden booklet for these answers and more!
