Dating Systems Our dating system was set up by historians who were Christians Pope Gregory XIII, the man who invented the modern calendar in 1582 when he was 80 years old! →

The OLD way of dating time... B.C.= Before Christ Any time before the year zero Higher the number = older the date Ex. 51 BC A.D.= Anno Domini, “in the year of our Lord” Any time after the year zero Higher the number = more modern (recent) the date Ex. 1911 AD

The NEW way of dating time... B.C.E = Before Common Era Any time before the year zero Higher the number = older the date Ex. 51 BC or 51 BCE C.E.= Common Era Any time after the year zero Higher the number = more modern (recent) the date Ex. 1911 AD or 1911 CE
