Gold Wally B ridel Chaired several committees and task forces DCAT Educational Note (Life and P&C) Wally Bridel. Wally graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in 1987. He has served the Institute and the profession on the Eligibility and Education council, as well as on [CLICK] various committees and task forces over the years, chairing several. One of the highlights of his volunteer activities was with the Committee on Risk Management and Capital Requirements, a few years ago, when the committee completed an update to the [CLICK] Dynamic Capital Adequacy Testing (DCAT) educational note. He felt that a good balance was achieved between strengthening guidance in areas that required greater clarity, while maintaining a practical perspective. When asked to describe some key knowledge or skills that he has developed as a result of volunteering with the CIA, Wally had this to say: [CLICK – AUDIO]. [CLICK]

Gold Wally Bridel Vice-president, corporate actuarial , Munich Re in Toronto Interests: Environment and mentoring younger Fellows and students Wally is currently [CLICK] vice-president of corporate actuarial with Munich Re in Toronto, Ontario. He has an interest in the [CLICK] environment, particularly with regard to climate change and water resources. He also enjoys mentoring younger Fellows and students. In his spare time, Wally enjoys [CLICK] music, golf and traveling with his family to new and exciting destinations. [CLICK] Music, golf and travel

Gold Luc Farmer Experience spans every level of volunteer group Unique perspective as Secretary-Treasurer Luc Farmer. Luc attended the Université de Montréal, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (Math) degree in 1979. He has devoted many years to volunteering [CLICK] for the CIA on committees, task forces, the Practice Standards Council, as well as on the Board and former Council. A highlight of his volunteer work was as Secretary-Treasurer of the Institute, which gave him [CLICK] a unique overall perspective on the challenges the CIA faced. Luc also shared with us, one of his experiences as a member of CLIFR and how their work had a lasting impact.[CLICK - AUDIO] [CLICK part way through audio clip – moves to next slide.]

Gold Luc Farmer Principal , Eckler Ltd. in Montréal Interests: Woodworking and outdoor activities Luc now works as Principal for Eckler Ltd. in Montréal, Québec. Luc’s interests include woodworking, as well as outdoor activities like cycling, canoeing and skiing. He also enjoys a good meal with good friends. [CLICK] Enjoys a good meal with good friends

Gold Chris Townsend Served on a variety of volunteer groups Educational note on the Eastern Canada Ice Storm Chris Townsend. Chris graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in 1979 and went on to earn his MBA from the University of Toronto in 2001. His service to the Institute has covered [CLICK] a wide area, from several practice committees to the Member Services Council, and its communications and administrative groups. Chris is particularly proud of the work he did with the P&C Insurance Financial Reporting Committee in 1998, when the committee produced, in a relatively short period of time, [CLICK] the Educational Note on the Eastern Canada Ice Storm—Treatment in Financial Reporting. His work as a member and as Chair of the Communications Committee, including the production of [CLICK] Beyond Risk magazine, also stands out. When asked if he had any advice to give members who are thinking of volunteering for the first time, Chris didn’t hesitate: [CLICK – AUDIO] [CLICK] Beyond Risk magazine

Gold Chris Townsend Senior vice-president and chief actuary, Aviva Canada Inc. in Toronto Chris is currently [CLICK] senior vice-president and chief actuary with Aviva Canada Inc. and lives in Toronto, Ontario. When he’s not at work or volunteering for the CIA, Chris’ favourite pastimes include birdwatching and playing games. [CLICK] Birdwatching and playing games

Gold Doug Townsend Practice Standards Council and Actuarial Evidence (AE) Committee Doug Townsend. Doug attended the University of British Columbia where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. He has served the Institute on many committees and task forces, as well as on the Practice Standards Council. Doug is particularly proud of his work, both as a member of the [CLICK] Practice Standards Council and as chair of the Actuarial Evidence Committee, as they managed to achieve consensus in order to bring the current [CLICK] Actuarial Evidence Standards into the CIA Consolidated Standards of Practice some years ago. Gold Doug Townsend Now-retired Founder and Principal of Townsend and Kavanagh, Actuarial Consultants Doug is the [CLICK] now-retired Founder and Principal of Townsend and Kavanagh, Actuarial Consultants and lives in Kingston, Ontario. His hobbies include [CLICK] travel, geocaching and sports (on TV). He is also a founding member [CLICK] and past-president of his Rotary Club. Gold Jacques Tremblay Practice Council – Early preparation for IFRS CLIFR – Annual Guidance for the Valuation of Policy Liabilities of Life Insurers Jacques Tremblay. Jacques graduated from Université Laval with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984. He has served the profession on several CIA councils, committees and task forces, including the Practice Council in recent years. A highlight of his volunteer service was just recently, in 2009, [CLICK] as Chair of the Practice Council, when he participated in the early preparation for IFRS, overseeing the review of the International Actuarial Standards of Practice (IASPs) and subsequent approval of most of them as educational notes or research papers. Jacques is also proud of his involvement as member and Chair [CLICK] of the Committee on Life Insurance Financial Reporting and the development of the Annual Guidance for the Valuation of Policy Liabilities of Life Insurers. Gold Jacques Tremblay Partner, Oliver Wyman in Toronto Coach of the Ajax Under-21 AAA hockey team Jacques is now a Partner with Oliver Wyman in Toronto, Ontario.
