By tracing His steps, will we learn to follow? The 1st Year By tracing His steps, will we learn to follow?

Luke 4:16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures.

Luke 4:17-20 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: 18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the

Luke 4:17-20 oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come. ” 20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently.

Luke 4:21-27 Then he began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” 22 Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips. “How can this be?” they asked. “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” 23 Then he said, “You will undoubtedly quote me this proverb: ‘Physician, heal yourself’—meaning, ‘Do

Luke 4:21-27 miracles here in your hometown like those you did in Capernaum.’ 24 But I tell you the truth, no prophet is accepted in his own hometown. 25 “Certainly there were many needy widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the heavens were closed for three and a half years, and a severe famine devastated the land. 26 Yet Elijah was not sent to any of

Luke 4:21-27 them. He was sent instead to a foreigner—a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon. 27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, but the only one healed was Naaman, a Syrian.”

Today, this passage about the Messiah is fulfilled!

Luke 4:28-31 When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious. 29 Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff, 30 but he passed right through the crowd and went on his way. 31 Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in

Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. Luke 4:28-31 Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day.

Dealing with opposition

John 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

We must decide to live for Jesus regardless of what we face in this life

1 Peter 2:21 For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.

Even if it means suffering We have to follow We must decide to live for Jesus regardless of what we face in this life Even if it means suffering We have to follow

We can not allow how someone might treat us to be a determining factor to us sharing God’s love

1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 You yourselves know, dear brothers and sisters, that our visit to you was not a failure. 2 You know how badly we had been treated at Philippi just before we came to you and how much we suffered there. Yet our God gave us the courage to declare his Good News to you boldly, in spite of great opposition. 3 So you can see we were not preaching with any

1 Thessalonians 2:1-4 deceit or impure motives or trickery. 4 For we speak as messengers approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News. Our purpose is to please God, not people. He alone examines the motives of our hearts.

Courage & boldness Remember that He knows our motives. We can not allow how someone might treat us to be a determining factor to us sharing God’s love Courage & boldness Remember that He knows our motives.

We have to understand the difference between where we are, and where we are going

Romans 8:15-19 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. 17 And since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s

Romans 8:15-19 glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. 18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. 19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.

We have to understand the difference between where we are, and where we are going We are His children & heirs. We shouldn’t be fearful for what might come. Our Father will watch over His children.

This is why we have hope!

Hebrews 2:18 Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.
