3 Jesus teaches us two fundamentals for life

4

5 21 Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he
was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. 22 Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. 23 The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.” 24 So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” --Luke 2:21-24 (NLT)

6

7 41 Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. 42 When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual. 43 After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, 44 because they assumed he was among the other travelers. But when he didn’t show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends. 45 When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. --Luke (NLT)

8

9 46 Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. 47 All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. 48 His parents didn’t know what to think. “Son,” his mother said to him, “why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been frantic, searching for you everywhere.” (cont’d) --Luke 2:46-52 (NLT)

10 49 “But why did you need to search?” he asked. “Didn’t you
know that I must be in my Father’s house?” 50 But they didn’t understand what he meant. 51 Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart. 52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. --Luke 2:46-52 (NLT)

14 Jesus was (probably) a Pharisee

15

16 1 There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious
leader who was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.” --John 3:1-2 (NLT)

17

18 He got mad when they were doing religion to be seen by others (Matthew 23:5)

19 He got mad when they were doing religion to be seen by others (Matthew 23:5)
He got mad when religion was an obstacle to people’s salvation (Matthew 23:13)

20 He got mad when they were doing religion to be seen by others (Matthew 23:5)
He got mad when religion was an obstacle to people’s salvation (Matthew 23:13) He got mad when religion was more important than him (Matthew 23:16)

22 leads to a resurrection
Rabbi Jesus teaches us that a relationship leads to a resurrection

23

24 16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood
home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. 17 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see… (cont’d) --Luke 4:16-21 (NLT)

25 …that the oppressed will be set free, 19 and that the time of
the Lord’s favor has come.” 20 He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. All eyes in the synagogue looked at him intently. 21 Then he began to speak to them. “The Scripture you’ve just heard has been fulfilled this very day!” --Luke 4:16-21 (NLT)

26

27 --John 5.21 (NLT) “For just as the Father raises the dead
and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.” --John 5.21 (NLT)

28

29 25 “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes
in me will live, even though he dies; 26 and whoever lives and believes in me will never die”. --John 11:25-26
