How Stories Are Arranged Plot Elements How Stories Are Arranged

Fiction Text Structure Exposition Who/What/When/Where/Why leading up to our story. Conflict The primary struggle/problem/challenge for the main character. Rising Action All the events taking place from the discovery of the conflict to the climax. Climax The emotional scene at the end of the story where the conflict is going to be resolved. Resolution The happy or unhappy solution of the conflict. Falling Action The events after the conflict has been resolved.

Fiction Text Structure Exposition: What is the situation in the beginning? Who is the main character? What information do we find out as the story begins? What is the setting? Conflict: What is it the main character needs, wants, or must accomplish? Who/What is getting in the way of this desire?

Fiction Text Structure Rising Action: Identify the main events that take place between the conflict and the climax. Climax: What is the emotional scene at the end of the story right before we see the conflict resolved? Resolution: Do the main characters successfully solve the problem? Explain. Falling Action: What events happen after we’re given the resolution?
