Exposition Who/What/When/Where/Why leading up to our story. Conflict The primary struggle/problem/challenge for the main character. Rising Action All the events taking place from the discovery of the conflict to the climax. Climax The emotional scene at the end of the story where the conflict is going to be resolved. Resolution The happy or unhappy solution of the conflict.

Analyze the text structure for The Devil’s Arithmetic. Exposition: What is the situation in the beginning? Who is Hannah? What is her situation. What is the setting? Conflict: Hannah has an internal conflict. On one side she likes her family, especially her brother and Aunt Eva. On the other side, she has no interest in her family’s history or traditions despite their strong emotions of the past.
