Higher order questions Lesson Topic(s): comparing numbers Week of: 1/14-1/18 Objectives: Students will compare numbers by greater than, less than or equal to up to 20. TEKS:2(E) generate a set using concrete and pictorial models that represents a number that is more than, less than, and equal to a given number up to 20. Essential Question: How do the comparison symbols help you compare numbers? Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Lesson Plan Students will participate in a whole group comparing game. In their journals, they will complete a comparing worksheet. In partners, they will play a comparing game. Complete a greater than less than worksheet to put in journals. Partners will play a grab and compare game. Partners will create their own greater than less than problems by drawing number cards and then recording them on a sheet. Students will learn how to play dice wars and record a few of the results in their journals. Partners will then play against each other. Math Station Games Vocabulary Greater than Less than Equal to Number line Symbols Higher order questions What do you remember about comparing numbers? How would you demonstrate comparing numbers? How is finding one more one less similar to greater than less than? What is the problem with this statement? 3 is greater than 4. Assessment Strategy Students will participate in a greater than, less than, or equal to activity with their partners. Students will play math games with their partners over all of the previous skills taught.
