Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Lesson Plan Discuss vocabulary words. Read Abuelo and the Three Bears . Make vocabulary page in journal with definitions and pictures. Read the story. Students discuss finding main idea. Discuss story elements and idioms. Use vocabulary words in new sentences. Read the story. Use a graphic organizer to compare/contrast. Practice vocabulary. Read the story. Practice summarizing the story in small groups. Comprehension assessment on the story. Skill check on summarizing and compare/contrast. Vocabulary Medium Arrive Argue Stubborn Noticed Cozy Higher order questions What makes a folktale different from a regular fiction story? What happens when we use idioms in a story? Do they create problems with comprehension? How does summarizing the ideas in a section help you retell in logical sequence? Compare/contrast How is Abuelo’s story like Goldilocks? How will summarizing help you to read and understand another section? Assessment Strategy Students will describe how folk tales are different. Students will discuss how stories are better or worse because of idioms. Students can retell the story and the story in the story. Students will create chart explaining the similarities and differences. . Students will do RTI as needed to reinforce skills.
