Parents' Workshop May 29th, 2019 Algebra 1 Honors Parents' Workshop May 29th, 2019

FACTS It is the basis of all higher level Math, therefore it is imperative that the students do well. It is a high school class, meaning that the grade they get in this class will count toward their high school GPA.  At the end of the school year, they will take the EOC (different workshop), which is a requirement for high school graduation. The students have to know all the formulas.

Prerequisites Number sense: In order to have all tools in hand, the students need to master the following: Number sense: Time tables Operations with integers  Operations with fractions, including complex fractions Expressing a fraction as a decimal and a percent Order of operations  Properties of operations (commutative, associative, distributive, beginning factoring) Applications (word problems)

Algebra Reasoning Combining like terms, simplifying expressions Evaluating expressions Solve a proportion, including the percent proportion Multi-steps equations with one variable Muti-steps inequalities with one variable Applications (word problems)

Measurement and Data Frequency table, Stem and Leaf Graph, Dot plot Line Graph, Bar Graph, Histogram, Circle Graph Outlier Measures of Central Tendency: mean, median and mode Measures of spread: range, interquartile range (IQR) Box Plot Applications

Geometry Angles: acute, obtuse, right, straight, complementary, supplementary, linear pair Two-dimensional figures, their perimeters and areas: circles, triangles, all quadrilaterals Three-dimensional figures, their surface areas and their volumes: prisms, pyramids, cones, spheres Applications (word problems)

Resources Many resources are available for your children to be ready. Khan Academy Math Nation: On Ramp to Algebra Edgenuity Summer Packet Algebra Readiness Summer Packet. All of these are available through the students' portal, and the parents 'portal.  Answer keys are available to parents through the parents' portal. Please note that this review is not mandatory although it is strongly suggested. There is no time to reteach these topics in the Algebra 1 Honors class.

Please note, During the second week of next school year a school-wide test will be given to assess these prerequisites, independently of your child's completion of the suggested reviews. This test will be graded.

HAVE A WONDERFUL SUMMER!!
