We can provide IDSS through various means: Phone Calls Impact- Based Decision Support Decision Support Services Forecast advice and interpretative services the NWS provides to help core partners, such as emergency personnel and public safety officials, make decisions when weather, water and climate impacts the lives and livelihoods of the American people. This support may be needed in response to a particular event or routinely to support high-value decision making. Hazard Weather Progression HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK WATCH WARNING Impacts over next 7 days Severe weather possible 5-6 hours long Parts of States Severe weather indicated 30-60 minutes long Counties/Parishes These are the important products for a storm spotter. Ideally, we begin talking about the risk for severe weather several days out in our Hazardous Weather Outlook. On the day of the event, the Storm Prediction Center may issue a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Watch if conditions appear to be coming together for the possibility of severe weather. Once we get a report of severe weather, or see indications that storms may be severe, we (NWS Shreveport) will issue a Severe Thunderstorm or Tornado Warning.
