New Inputs Marina Ruggieri AESS 2010-2011 President IEEE AESS Officers Strategic Planning Meeting (SPM) February 4, 2011 - ESA Headquarter – Paris (France)

News I have been appointed in: TAB Strategic Planning Committee 2011-2013 TAB Rep (Member), IEEE Women in Engineering Committee 2011

TAB Management Committee (TMC) Important Input from TAB (14 January 2011) TAB Management Committee (TMC) rules that the AESS governing documents version dated 2009 shall be the current governing documents of the Society, and that AESS work in 2011 to discuss the content, make revisions, and bring to TAB prior to the November 2011 meeting.

New Ad Hoc Committee* Chair: someone not previously involved in the complaint. This AdHoc committee work closely with Technical Activities staff to ensure that all required language in the Society’s governance documents is complete, and that a clear distinction is made between IEEE requirements, as opposed to recommendations. The new governance documents should be completed, approved by the BoG and approved by the membership in time to be reported at the November 2011 meeting of the Technical Activities Board (18-19 November 2011) * requested from TAB

Some topics * 2011 organization and possible areas that may need  coverage/replacement * The new space conference: status, ESA involvement, planning, etc (Mark) * AESS Membership program allignment with the IEEE two-tier model (Jim H.) * New directions in technical operations, involvement of ESA (Theo) * Pubs transition plan (Bob L, all) * Industry in the strategic plan (Hugh) * Students and hystory: a joint direction for AESS (Jim L., Bob R.)

Important Input from TAB for Membership (November 2010)

IEEE TRADITIONAL Membership Blend of ‘E’ and ‘P’ components One Society BASIC membership (member’s choice) is included with IEEE membership. All Society BASIC memberships are valued at the same price. Additional Society BASIC memberships (beyond the initial choice) are available. All additional Society BASIC memberships are priced the same. Offerings, and prices, for ENHANCED Society memberships can vary by Society. Each Society shall offer only one ENHANCED model membership. Print offerings, E-learning products and other bundled-with-memberships offerings fall into the a la carte ENHANCED packages. IEEE TRADITIONAL Membership Blend of ‘E’ and ‘P’ components Society ENHANCED Membership BASIC Membership ‘E’ components IEEE E-MEMBERSHIP E: Electronic P: Print Proposed Society Two Tiered Membership Model

Proposed Model Principles: Society BASIC Membership IEEE membership to contain one Society BASIC membership. The price is “included.” Additional Society BASIC memberships may be added at time of join/renew/add. The price for each Society BASIC membership is consistent (ie, same price for each membership added to IEEE membership, beyond that which is included). Society ENHANCED memberships may contain variable components and are priced a la carte.

Proposed Model Principles: Society ENHANCED Membership Society ENHANCED membership offerings will vary by Society Components will vary Prices will vary Memberships will be offered at join/renew/add Each Society, however, will only have one ENHANCED membership model.

What Happens Next? Go back to your AdComs and colleagues and get buy-in! Consider how alternate membership options could enable economic win-wins Bring your thoughts to the web forums: http://tadiscuss.ieee.org Consider options for bundling products or what to make Basic/Enhanced in your membership packages 5/23/2019

What does a Member get? Societies can self-manage their eMembership package each Society determines the bundle of services and products to be included in their Basic Membership under the proposed model. each Society should have the independence to manage how they elect to cover the costs of their membership. For instance, Basic Membership may include all, some or one product such as: eNewsletter, eMagazine, community access, web education, etc.
