Carbon management plan WM Energy Managers' Forum, Friday 7th December 2012 Balbir Bassi Rugby Borough Council
Introduction In the past years Rugby Borough Council has taken measures in cutting down on wasted energy. Meter readings were taken manually and given to the energy supplier. This contributed to bill validation and eliminated estimated billing. False billing has been eliminated by identifying redundant and non existent meters. New supplier contracts have been set up for suppliers to provide actual readings rather than estimated readings. Significant reduction in billing is seen in slides to follow
Corporate Energy Costs
Achievements & Progress to date Projects already implemented Town hall voltage optimisation Closure of Redundant buildings Heating schedule checks (BEMS set points) Energy Management ( Monitoring, Recording & Reporting ) Installation of LED lighting to John Barford car park
Case study The secret : To show success with an initial project that demonstrates a strong financial return. Implement a project with a positive Environmental Impact. Thats; Replacement of T8 5ft fluorescent tubes and fitting with Lylux- 5ft LED and fittings with sensors

Challenges To Believe in LED (new technology),as the most cost effective solution for the car Park. To design for sensors and timers to maximise energy savings while providing adequate lighting where necessary. To manage the project during Christmas period and ensure minimum disruptions to the daily use of the car park.
Summary LED with controls is the way forward. It cuts down on energy usage while producing a positive effect on budgets Final Thought……. Energy reduction saves money
