City of Normandy Park Visioning Strategic Plan Doug Schulze, City Manager

Normandy Park SightLines 2030 Help the community of Normandy Park make better, more informed choices for the long-term future. Bring community members together to build consensus on a preferred future for Normandy Parka vision for the year 2030and begin working to make that vision a reality over time. The Normandy Park SightLines 2030 visioning process was not intended to replace ongoing city planning and decision- making, but to help make those activities better informed, more strategic and more effective. Explore where we are today, where we want to be, and how we might get there. The process also provided an opportunity for people to come together to discuss significant trends and issues affecting their community in a proactive, collaborative way.

Process April Normandy Park City Council voted to sponsor a community visioning process - Normandy Park SightLines 2030 Identified expectations – Desired Outcomes May Selected Consultant Developed process with consultant Established Steering Committee June Focus Group Interviews Build Excitement & Interest July – August Community Events – Go Where People Gather

What People Really Want: More local business / retail Land Use and Development their way A gathering place Parks Working infrastructure road maintenance; sidewalks on arterials; bridge repair For Normandy Park to stay unique; as it is, oasis

What we Learned During Phase 1 I REALLY LIKE NORMANDY PARK How do you KEEP what you VALUE? It takes ACTION/ PRO– ACTION to do this! Community / Connection Physical Environment Safe and Secure

Affects on Outreach Design Start with the assumption of 3-way identity: Natural beauty Community Safety and Security Then, based on these values How to achieve these same values in the future What this actually looks like to people Inform and gather thoughts about topics that are: Arcane; complex (e.g., revenues and expenditures; which gov provides which services) Controversial; widely divergent ideas (e.g., Retail? Housing appropriate for seniors? Community center: retail, res, rec or gov? Recreation support?) Help people explore trade-offs Community / Connection Physical Environment Safe and Secure

Common Questions Future Vision What do you SEE in 2030? What do you VALUE and APPRECIATE? Ideas What ISSUES face Normandy Park? What would make Normandy Park BETTER? Anything else? Demographics Age, what you do in Normandy Park, Date
