Section 3.1 Scatterplots Response Variable: measures an outcome of a study Dependent variables Explanatory variable: attempts to explain the observed outcomes Independent variables

Scatterplots Show the relationship between two quantitative variables measured on the same individuals (SAT v. ACT)

Graphing Scatterplots Plot explanatory on horizontal axis Plot response variable on vertical axis If there is not explanatory-response distinction, either variable can go on the horizontal axis.
