APA citation and paraphrasing The difference between summary and quote? Quotes need to be cited! The difference between citing and paraphrasing? In citing, we use quotation marks. In paraphrasing, there is usually no need for quotation marks. Both citing and paraphrasing require the authors’ names in parentheses, as well as the year of publishing!
