Athlete vs. Non-athlete Blood Pressure Research by Quinten Travis

Introduction Blood pressure has been recognized as a principle vital sign and is a criteria for being in good health. The purpose of this experiment is to test the direct effect that athletic events have on the blood pressure of athletes.

Null Hypothesis: There is no significant difference in blood pressure between athletes and non-athletes. Alternative Hypothesis: The blood pressure of athletes is significantly less that non-athletes’.

Method Participants will be asked a series of questions in order to identify predetermine factors that affect blood pressure (weight, age, height) Participants; blood pressure will then be tested and recorded. Data will be compared and interpreted to determine if the results of the experiment show significant differences between athletes and non-athletes.

Blood Pressure Classifications Classification of blood pressure for adults Category systolic, mmHg diastolic, mmHg Hypotension < 90 < 60 Desired 90–119 60–79 Prehypertension 120–139 80–89 Stage 1 Hypertension 140–159 90–99 Stage 2 Hypertension 160–179 100–109 Hypertensive Emergency ≥ 180 ≥ 110
