A TALE OF LEARNING PROLOGUE: Policy and Practice

The Setting: Rural India

KEY QUESTIONS ? Can illiterate mothers of children in poor countries taught to be literate and numerate through simple, community- based literacy classes? Can teaching illiterate mothers how to read and interpret numbers result in improved learning outcomes for children? Can teaching illiterate mothers how to engage and support their childrens education lead to improved learning outcomes for children? If each intervention (above) alone is insufficient to impact child outcomes, can a combination of the two work?

THE PROJECT The first randomized evaluation of an adult literacy and Parenting intervention in a developing country.
