Using Question Words
SWBAT Students will be able to accurately respond to varying questions in French based solely on clues from the question word.
Question Words you might hear Qui? Que? Qu’est-ce que? Quoi Lequel? pourquoi
ou? Comment? Combien de? a quelle heure? Quand? Quel(le)? Est-ce que?
Answering Qui A qui question is always looking for a name. When you hear qui, answer with a name.
Que/ qu’est-ce que Both mean what. You need to give an item or an action depending on your verb. Que fais tu? - Je nage Qu’est-ce que tu as? - la tarte
Quoi quoi is always after a preposition. It means what, but you’re going to need a lequel sentence to answer. Avec quoi manges-tu? Voici la fourchette avec laquelle je mange.
Lequel If the object is in front of you: celui or celle If not, use a lequel sentence.
Pourquoi: why Give me a reason for something
ou- where Whenever you see this, give me a place.
Comment :how Generally speaking, you are going to answer with a bien or mal here
Combien de: how many Give me a number
A quelle heure/ quand ALWAYS answered with a time.
Quelle - which You’re going to need a lequel sentence here.
est-ce que It just makes the sentence a question
Si: if You need to respond with a correct si sentence. This is easier if you begin by repeating the si clause from the question.
