Paragraph Writing Topic and Claim: In Night by Elie Wiesel, Elie begins to show more care and affection for his father in chapter 5, especially if there is a chance of Elie and his father being separated. An example of this is when Elie’s father is picked for selection and he is giving away his tools to Elie: Don’t talk like that, father. I was on the verge of breaking into sobs I don’t want you say such things. Keep the spoon and knife. You need them as much is I. We’ll see each other tonight, after work. This was not the moment to separate”(82).  To elaborate, when Elie finds out that another selection is taking place and his father was chosen, he was devastated and was afraid that his father would be of no use to the Germans and would be killed. To explain the second example, when the Jews were leaving the concentration camp, Elie was injured with a bad leg and had a choice to stay in the infantry. He decides to stay along by his father and this shows Elie as loving towards his father because he doesn’t want to be separated from him. It is evident that Elie is starting to care more for his father because he doesn’t want to feel lonely if he were to lose him.
