Invaders Attack Western Europe 800-1000- Invasions destroyed Carolingian Empire Invasions came Muslim Invaders & Vikings from North Vikings et sail from Scandinavia Region now made up of Denmark, Norway & Sweden Vikings called Northmen or Norsemen were Germanic People Worshipped warlike gods Vikings were not only warriors Were Traders, Farmers, & Explorers Gradually accepted Christianity 2

Magyars & Muslims Attack Europe becomes target of new assaults Magyars (Nomadic) attacked from Hungary Superb horseman Attacked isolated villages & monasteries Overran northern Italy Took captives to sell as slaves 600-700 Muslim plan was to conquer and settle in Europe Because excellent sea farers, they attacked settlements on Atlantic and Mediterranean Coasts 3
