Do Now Respond to the following prompt in 3-5 complete sentences. What do you think career planning is and why do you think it is important?

Preparing Your Path to Success Guiding Question: What are the benefits of having a career plan?

Why Plan for Your Career Your choice of career will affect everything about your adult life -- where you live, what your lifestyle is like, and how satisfied you are with your life. By beginning your planning now, you will have a better chance for future success and happiness. Career success starts with you P*A*T*H* to Success -- your passions, attitude, talents, and heart.

Jigsaw Reading Activity Divide into 5 groups. One student from each group will be the group leader. Each group will be assigned one section of today’s reading. Within your group, you will read over your assigned segment (this can be done individually or aloud, your group can decide). Annotate, highlight, take notes, and/or answer the guiding questions for your assigned segment. Each group should be prepared to explain their segment to the class.

Guiding Questions for Each Group What are realistic career expectations? What is the difference between a job, career, and occupation? What are the steps of the P*A*T*H* to Success? Why should I begin career planning now? How does career planning support career success?

Present Your Section to the Class Be sure to cover the vocabulary, main ideas, and guiding questions for your segment.

Activity First, complete the vocabulary builder activity. Select the term that best fits the definition. Each definition can be found in the chapter. Next, complete the Review What You Have Learned questions. Respond to each question in a complete sentence.
