Presentation transcript:

Welcome back from the “snow day”  Please start working on the Journal (it says 1/8 – change it to 1/9) about your Personal Values. Use the guiding questions to help you; feel free to add more information; write in as much detail as possible.

What does it mean to be an American? Words that come to your mind Journal Response Read the Gallup Poll article – what being American means to today’s youth Respond View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNngEgXCSEY

10 Core American values Compare these 10 Core American Values to your personal values (from the inventory we did on Friday). Star the American values that align with your personal values. Put an “X” next to American values that do not align with your own. Rank the American values in order of importance, based on your beliefs about what it means to be an American. (#1 is the overall most important value to you as an American.) Once you have your rankings, discuss with your group. As a group, narrow it down to the three most important values for Americans.

Collage Activity What does it mean to YOU to be an American? What are your values? Goals? Hopes? What is your American Dream? You will be creating an artistic representation of your answers to the questions above. Your collage must contain at least 10 images; all your images must be encapsulated by a single shape or image that also represents your ideas. Overall, this piece should represent who you are, who you are as an American, what you value, and what American Dream(s) you hope to achieve in your life. You have all the class time between now and the end of class on Thursday.
