WELCOME TO PARENTS’ NIGHT: SAT-10 FORUM READING & Math

What is the SAT-10 ? Stanford Achievement Test Tenth Edition A multiple choice assessment test given to K-2 students Tool used to measure national and state standards of achievement Includes Math and Reading Comprehension

What is the format of the test? It is a 2 days testing, one reading session and one math session. It consists of multiple choice questions. All students K-2 will have practice test materials. No preview for parents.

Test administration Teachers read directions verbatim once. There is a Reading Comprehension subtest. Students read short sentences on their own. Math/Math problem solving questions can only be read once.

SAT SCORING Stanines- Stanines are a numeric representation of performance in a ranking order from one (1) to nine (9) with five (5) being an average score. Percentiles- Percentile ranks represent a nationwide grouping of students into ranks from one (the lowest) to 99 (the highest), the 50th percentile being average.

When will the SAT be given? The students will take the SAT the second week in April 4th-8thth, 2016

HOW TO ASSIST WITH HOMEWORK ALLOW STUDENTS TO WORK INDEPENDENTLY, THEN CHECK WORK AFTER ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT BOOKS READ TO CHECK FOR COMPREHENSION

What to do on the test days? Make sure your child: Eats a healthy breakfast Arrives to school on time Those students who are late will not be able to participate in a session that has started.

How to help your child be prepared for the test? Include 20-30 minutes of reading in your child’s daily schedule. Ask questions about the story. Ask where in the story they found the answer.

Test Taking Strategies Listen carefully to the directions the teacher gives and follow them exactly. Do not spend too much time on a difficult question, come back to it later.

Test Taking Strategies cont’d Eliminate the answers you know are wrong, then select the best answer. Do NOT leave ANY questions unanswered. Unanswered questions are marked wrong. Go back and look for the answer.

Test Taking Strategies cont’d In math make sure to show all your work. Do not do the work in your head. If finished before time is up, go back and check each answer. Fill in the answer bubble completely. Do not leave any stray marks .

What to do the night before the test ? Make sure your child: Goes to bed early and gets a good night’s sleep.

What to do on the test days? Make sure your child: Eats a healthy breakfast Arrives to school on time. Those students who are late will not be able to participate in a session that has started.
