Creating Power Point Presentations Mr. Eaton Journalism November 18, 2013

Choose a Design Using the “Design” Tab, choose a design that will display your content in an interesting way without distracting from it. Make sure the design allows you enough room for all the amazing pictures, text, etc. that you will include in your presentation.

New Slides Click on the “Home” tab and choose “New Slide” You will notice that your first slide is different from your new slide Each design template starts with a title slide and shifts to slightly different slides for content

Content Include only the most important text on the slide (you can always elaborate as you present) If your slide has too much text, people will lose interest, get lost, or ignore it Try to add a picture every once in a while, it adds interest and looks professional

Pictures Click on the “Insert” tab Choose whether you want to add a picture from clip art (images already stored in Power Point) or from a file (“Picture” button) Do not add too many pictures unless it is the focus of the slide Too many pictures distracts from the message of the text

Animations Animations are how your text and pictures will appear on the screen when you start the slide show Click the “Animations” tab Highlight the text/picture you want to animate Choose an animation that will emphasize and not distract from your presentation Too many fancy animations makes your slideshow less professional and, to be honest, a little silly

Transitions Transitions are how your slides will move from beginning to end Fun transitions can add interest to your slide show Be careful not to add to many crazy transitions as it distracts from the content of your slide show

Your Finished! Good job! You finished making your power point! See how it looks by pressing the “Slide Show” button near the bottom right corner (next to the screen percent)
