Objective: How do we understand the meaning of October 5, 2009 Math 201 Objective: How do we understand the meaning of division? Aim: Use an array or a number line to solve a division fact. NYS Mathematics Standards: 4.N.16, 5.N.17 Prior Knowledge: What is a factor? List the factors for 32, 45, and 72

Division can also be understood as repeated subtraction:

Mini-lesson: Division is a process that separates a large group into smaller groups. You can divide into same-size groups and count how many things are in each equal group. Or, you can divide into an equal number of things in a group, and then count how many groups you made:

Guided Practice:

Independent Practice: Worksheet Handout (Mr. Brooks will walk the room and visit each desk to make sure you understand.) Closure: What did we learn today? Homework: Take home worksheet (both sides)
