1 Objective: Students will divide integers.
October 20, Math 102 Objective: Students will divide integers. Aim: What are the properties of division and how do we determine the correct sign for the quotient when we divide integers? NYS Mathematics Standards: 7.N.12 Prior Knowledge: When you multiply two integers with the same sign, the sign of the product is _________________. When you multiply two integers with different signs, the sign of the product is _________________.

2 Mini-lesson: Division is the inverse operation for multiplication. You use division facts whenever you divide. The sign rules are the same as the rules for multiplication. If the signs are the same, then the quotient is positive. If the signs are different, then the quotient is negative. Division Signs Answer Same 2 Different -2

3 Horizontal Vertical Fractional

4 Guided Practice: Find -50 divided by -5.
Find the absolute value for each. |-50| = 50 |-5| = 5 Divide the absolute values of the numbers. 50 divdied by 5 = 10 The signs are the same. The quotient will be positive. Write the quotient with the sign

5 Find the quotient:

6 Independent Practice:
Assessment: Is this correct? Why or why not? Negative thirty two divided by negative four equals negative eight Homework: 8 – 5 “Homework Practice” worksheet
