Unsupportive workplace environments are the biggest driver of women leaving the STEM workforce Women who leave the STEM workforce report that they:1,2 Did not receive training opportunities Were not supported by their supervisors Worked with undermining coworkers Were unhappy with work life balance Felt their workplace was overall unsupportive and hostile Why does this matter? While these reasons may not be unique to women in STEM, women tend to leave STEM at high rates relative to other professions. Companies can double down on development and retention best practices in their STEM workforce to combat this. 1.
