Documentary: Tran-handling Jabari Mills: Cinematographer/Lighting Technician Department of Entertainment Technology My Methods: Introduction Since 1904, the year New York City was introduced to the first subway by the IRT (Inter-borough Rapid Transit Company). Some would say that subways are the veins of New York City and trains have been helping New Yorkers travel and commute for many years. New York City gets its uniqueness from all the people, cultures and classes that eventually meet and forms a melting pot in these subways. From news to fashion, food, dance, music, poetry you can find all of this in our subway, but what draws the line between panhandling and entertainment? Could it be talent? Purpose perhaps? Or maybe the subject matter? By combining investigative research with a few interviews from local people, I will be creating a documentary on transit panhandling to reveal this lifestyle that is constantly ignored and answer how and why people decide to turn it. The skills include: 1. Operating Camera. Creating and Developing Story Lighting Subjects   The Process    We begin with storyboarding the entire project capturing location, upcoming events and the interview process. Booking Subjects for interview should be included in calendar development and will take the most time to complete. Budget will include Video, Lighting and Audio equipment that will be used for filming and all rental dates will be implemented in the production calendar. Staying within milestones set by the calendar will monitor rental dates which will keep within budget and measures success. Conclusion Filming for a documentry requires fast and efficient technical skill that are prepared for any modification or changes due to an uncontrolled environment., This can make or break the documentary. The challenges you face test your skills and how well one is able to adapt to changes that may effect your scheduling. It is important to be flexible and have a few backup plans incase something goes wrong with your equipment or even someone not showing up to call. Planning will save you time and money for budget. When filming, seeing what you want before it actually takes place will prepare you mentally for the day you will be shooting. This vision will help as a measurement of success during filming or show you how you can better plan ahead.
