Academic Advisor Group Session One

Session Overview Getting to know you. What is an Academic Advisor? How are you settling in? Study Skills Self Evaluation Skills Centre Sign posting

Two Truths and a Lie Each person must come up with three statements about themselves, one of which isn't true. For example: - I am vegetarian - I was born in Australia - I ride a motorcycle In your groups you then take in turns to share your statements and the rest of the group must guess, or vote on, which statement is the lie.

What is an Academic Advisor?

How are you settling in at SHU? It is important to us that you are settling well into your accommodation, social life and studies. Generally that is the case but sometimes there are issues that if we are aware of them we can help you overcome. Please complete the Settling In Proforma and hand back.

Study Skills Self Evaluation As your Academic Advisor my primary remit is to help you develop and succeed academically. We will also look at your personal development and career aspirations but initially we focus on getting you up to speed academically. Please complete this Study Skills Self Evaluation, this will give you a good idea of your current capabilities in key areas and we'll revisit it at a later date to see how you are progressing.
