Essay Template

Introduction The Introduction should include the following sentences: -The hook sentence -The title/author of the passage- Use quotes if it is an article and italics if it is a novel. -1-2 sentence summary of topic/passages -Thesis statement- it must be address what the prompt is asking youto do. -USE ECHO WORDS IN THESIS!!

ECHO WORDS What are Echo words? -Echo words are words from your prompt -Echo words are “echoed” or repeated throughout your essay -These words are the words that you need to repeat in your paper -Echo words can be 1 word or phrase

BODY PARAGRAPHS -1ST SENTENCE- Should always be your topic sentence- tells what the paragraph will focus on- it is not a fact from the passage -Use Echo words in the topic sentence - Introduce the text evidence correctly -Provide evidence (concrete details) -Provide defense- explain how evidence supports overall thesis -Concluding sentence-sums up paragraph or transitions to next paragraph

CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH -REMEMBER TO USE ECHO WORDS IN THE CONCLUSION PARAGRAPH -To conclude your essay- consider answering some of the following questions. -Why was the passage important to read? -what should we learn after reading this passage? (author’s message) -Wrap up your essay- no evidence!!
