THE PRESENT SIMPLE Review

USE: We use the Present Simple to talk about things that happen regularly (ROUTINE): things that are true in general: We go out every weekend. Paulo usually watches TV. She likes playing computer games. It rains a lot in England.

FORM Affirmative Negative I/ You/ We / They like pizza. He/ She / It likes pizza. I/ You/We / They don’t like pizza. He/She/ It doesn´t like pizza.

FORM Question Short answers Do I/ you/ we/they like pizza? Does he/ she/ it like pizza? Yes, I/ you/ we/ they do. No, I/ you/ we/ they don´t. Yes, he/ she/ it does. No, he/ she/ it doesn´t.

WH- QUESTIONS When do you go to São Paulo? I go to São Paulo on Sundays. What does Mônica do every day? She works every day. Why do you always text your friends? Because I always want to ... TIME ADVERBIALS With the Present Simple we use adverbs of frequency: NEVER 0% HARDLY EVER 20% SOMETIMES 40% OFTEN 60% USUALLY 80% ALWAYS 100% We put them after the subject of the sentence and before the verb: Pedro never plays soccer. But we put them after the verb to be: Pedro is always late.
