Expository Essay Expository essays require that the writer give information, explain the topic or define something Use of facts and statistical information, cause and effect relationships, or examples. Without emotion and usually written in the third person. That means that the use of the pronoun "I" is not usually found within the essay EXAMPLE: Scientific essay

Persuasive Essay Essay attempts to convince the reader of a particular point of view Limited topic which can have differing points of view The essay only presents one side of the issue, although it may acknowledge the other side The essay will use specific evidence, examples, statistical evidence, and no personal opinions EXAMPLE: ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY (GR. 11)

Narrative or Personal Essay Tell a personal story for the purpose of entertaining, teaching, or a combination of those two May use personal voice (I, we etc.) Elements of description and emotional connection are important May use dialogue and elements of the short story such as plot, conflict, etc.

Writing a PROMPT ESSAY/COMPOSITION A prompt is a topic which you are given, and then immediately expected to write about The prompt will be very general and usually will focus on personal accomplishments, family life, relationships, plans for the future, making choices.
