Lab Techniques Formative Assessment 2018-2019 Chemistry

In order to properly measure the volume of a liquid using a graduated cylinder, which of the following steps must one do? (Choose all that apply) Hold the graduated cylinder up so that you can see it. Get eye level with the meniscus. Place the graduated cylinder on a level surface. If the liquid you are measuring is water, read from the top of the meniscus. If the liquid you are measuring is water, read from the bottom of the meniscus.

Put the following steps in order for measuring the mass of a chemical Put the following steps in order for measuring the mass of a chemical. You do not need to know the mass of the container. ____ Using a spatula and holding the chemical bottle close to the scale, add the chemical to the container. _____Press the “Tare/Zero” button again. _____Place the container that you will be placing the chemical into onto the scale. _____Record the mass exactly as the balance displays (include units too!). _____Press the “Tare/Zero” button.

What equipment is necessary in order to properly filter a liquid from a solid? (includes at least 7 things)
