Life Cycles

Most insects, in the adult stage, have wings. Metamorphosis- when an organism goes through many stages to reach adulthood. Complete- ELPA Incomplete- ENA COMPLETE: egg, larva, pupa, adult INCOMPLETE: egg, nymph, adult Most insects, in the adult stage, have wings. Example: worker ants

Complete: Larva is very different from the adult stage in its physical characteristics Egg, Larva (worm-like state), pupa (chrysalis or cocoon state), adult Chrysalis= butterfly, Cocoon= any other insect A protective covering of a pupa that forms as a pupa changes to its adult state. Example: butterflies, mealworms, moths, etc.

Incomplete: After molting process (shedding outer layer of skin) more characteristics are added to appear as an adult. Egg, Nymph (baby that looks similar to adult), Adult Example: crickets, cockroaches, etc.
