Industrial Revolution Began in great Britain Many people farms to cities to work in factories. Agriculture could now be massed produced
Changes in Cotton Cotton was first massed produced good Eli Whitney- invented cotton gin (separated seeds) James Hargreaves- invented the spinning Jenny James Watt- invented the Steam powered Engine.
New Products 1870-1914- Steel replaced iron. Steel made lighter, smaller, and faster machines. Used in railways, ships, and weapons.
Thomas Edison U.S. Inventor who patented the first incandescent light. Formed the Edison Electric Light Company in New York City. *“We will make Electricity so cheap that only the rich will burn candles.”
Communications Alexander Graham Bell- invented the telephone. Guglielmo Marconi- sent the first radio waves across the Atlantic in 1901.
Other inventions Street cars and subways powered by electricity emerged in 1880’s. Internal Combustion Engine- established better ocean liners. Airplane- Orville and Wilbur Wright flew for the first time in 1903.
Steam Boat Robert Fulton Invented the Steamboat with paddle wheel First one called the Clermont
Assembly Line Made manufacturing more efficient and created mass production. Used by Henry Ford to effectively and easily make the Model T.
