Society and New Culture In the 1920s a new culture was developing in the world with the help of technologies . This new culture was inspired by freedom , and the ability to experiment . Jazz was a symbol of this new age , this was called the Jazz Age . Not everyone approved of this lifestyle . Was this culture approved of ? Writers and Literature In the eyes of some writers the war symbolized a breakdown with western civilization . Literature reflected a powerful cause with war. Some other writers experimented with stream of consciousness . African American artists and writers showed pride in their culture and explored their experiences in their work with was called the Harlem Renaissance . What is the Harlem Renaissance ? Scientific Discoveries Some of these new scientific discoveries challenged long held ideas . Albert Einstein argued that measurements of space and time are not absolute . Sigmund Freud pioneered psychoanalysis , a method of studying how the mind works and also treating mental issues . What did Albert Einstein argue ?
