Preliminaries Pre-class (10 classwork points): on your workstations, do the following: Launch Internet Explorer and browse to http://www.freetypinggame.net. Obtain your typing speed. Practice placing your hands on the homerow without looking at the keyboard. Click on the “Learn Now” button within the “Free Typing Lessons” pane. Select lesson #3 and read the instructions which follow “s” and “l” keys Left and right ring fingers

Review: Creating Documents Launching Word Saving documents Save command Save As command Creating new folders

Objectives Proper hand placement on the home row. Touch-type using the “s” and “l” keys at 20 w.p.m. Identify Word common keyboard shortcuts. Identify Word common interface elements: scroll bars (horizontal and vertical) Object browser Window menu and close window

Focus Lesson: Working with Existing Word Documents Complete steps #1 through #16 on p. 2 of the the handout. Pay particular attention to the object browser mentioned in steps #15 and #16.
