How to answer each question 1 hour 20 minutes Germany How to answer each question 1 hour 20 minutes

Question 1 (4 marks) What I can infer: (Read between the lines to see what can you work out) E.g. I can infer the Great Depression caused unemployment. Details in the source that tell me this. I can tell this as there are lots of people in the source queuing outside for benefits. THEN REPEAT THIS AGAIN

EXPLAIN… Question 2 (12 marks) You will be asked to explain something and given two bullet points to help you Complete a small introduction what will you be explaining – Repeat the question ..There are a number of reasons why… Firstly the main reason was (use bullet point 1) Explain why this helped ….. (Be explicit) E.g. Reichstag fire helped create a dictatorship by suspending civil liberties. Secondly the second reason was (use bullet point 2) Explain why this helped? Create a line of reasoning this helped because….. Go beyond the bullet points… think of another reason Write a conclusion – go back to the question have you answered it? What was the most important reason why? Have you explained your opinion?

Question 3 (8 marks) How useful are two sources Look at source B explain the NOP (nature, (what it is) Origin (when it was?) (Purpose) What is it telling us/showing? Now think of one reason why it is useful? Is it at the time? Is it from someone who would know what’s going on? Is it from a historian who has done extensive research? Does it support what you already know? Next think of a reason why it is not useful Look at source C explain the NOP (nature, (what it is) Origin (when it was?) (Purpose) What is it telling us/showing? Now think of one reason why it is useful or not very useful? Is it subjective? Is it for a magazine or newspaper that has political aims? Is it one person opinion? End point: Is one source more useful than the other? Should we consult with other sources? Does the source come in line with what you know of the period? E.g in my opinion both sources are useful as from my own knowledge I am certain this was happening the time because….. You must include your own knowledge

Question 3b (4 marks) Interpretation……. Looking at the difference between views Interpretation one states………. (Use quote to back up your point) Interpretation two states (use quote to back up your point) They are different because one states….. And the other states…..

Question 3c (4 marks) Why are the interpretations different? Explain x2 viewpoints. Why they could be different? Fierce historical debate with German history everyone interprets things differently. They may be partial extracts and we are not getting the full view. Not looking at wider events and only concentrating on one. Different people have different opinions. Different time frames.

How far do you agree with an interpretation about a key topic Question 3d (20 marks) How far do you agree with an interpretation about a key topic Write what interpretation 2 suggests. In your own words write down what the source is saying: is it positive or negative what is the overall view that you get from the interpretation? What are the main arguments that it is presenting. (You can quote from the source) Now write down why you AGREE with this view from interpretation 2. FROM YOUR OWN KNOWLEDGE. Interpretation two is correct because…..’ Write a paragraph with the evidence which supports the ideas in interpretation 2 Do any of the sources support this? Now write down why you do not agree with interpretation 2. Include examples FROM YOUR OWN KNOWLEDGE (see your put the ideas together in a paragraph. There is another interpretation….. There are a number of other reasons…….. For example in interpretation 1….. From my own knowledge…… HOW FAR YOU AGREE WITH INTERPRETATION TWO. I agree because…. However I disagree….. My interpretation of the is……. TIPS Say what’s going on in Germany! Use your subject knowledge!
